Wayside 02:54
Wayside My breath caught In her cellular phone Eight lanes of traffic Never felt so alone This is a sad day The sun will never shine I’ll feel this way for ever If I don’t leave it all behind I know your path may cross me I’ll let you pass on by We either share our lives together Or leave it all behind She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside She puts up my picture Now she’s tearing it down The girl networks all day While never touching the ground This is a sad day The sun will never shine I’ll feel this way for ever If I don’t leave it all behind I know this song seems passe I hear it all the time We can share our lives together Or leave it all behind She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside I leave It all behind I leave It all behind She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the way She said I’m not gonna go by the wayside By the wayside By the wayside By the wayside By the wayside

Settle Down 04:15
Settle Down Am7add9 E I grew up in a very small place Bm Everyone knew everyone’s business C#m But there was plenty of space Am7add9 By the look in your eyes E I’m wonder what you think Bm As I show you the downtown C#m As we head to the creek We always had fun I’ll show you where we’d skate Behind the post office And in the alley on the banks We spent a lot of time outside Camping was a way of life I could see myself settling here And making you a wife You didn’t know That I brought you here for a reason It’s time to plant some roots C#m It’s that time of season E Cause we settled down A On the edge of town E What more would you want B For your days of glory E Grab a couple poles A And some friends to hang around E We don’t care B If we hear the same story We’d wake up in the morning We’d run to the creek We’d throw our lines in While most people were still asleep We’d pull in some decent size Rainbow trout The creek was always stocked So the fish never ran out This is a perfect place to plant a seed With sunlight and shade And everything you need If you’ll take my hand I’ll get down on one knee As the rattlesnake sleeps Under the old oak tree Cause we settled down On the edge of town What more would you want For your days of glory Grab a couple poles And some friends to hang around We don’t care If we hear the same story When we were kids We built a halfpipe skate ramp We had a boat on the lake Where we learned to skurf There was a thirty foot fullpipe At the edge of the dam And yeah we roll our boards there Whenever we can I’m just trying to say I hope you understand This could be a dream Would you please take my hand Cause we settled down On the edge of town What more would you want For your days of glory Grab a couple poles And some friends to hang around We don’t care If we hear the same story Settle down On the edge of town Settle down On the edge of town Settle down On the edge of town Settle down On the edge of town Settle down On the edge of town Settle down On the edge of town Settle down On the edge of town Settle down On the edge of town Cause we settled down On the edge of town What more would you want For your days of glory Grab a couple poles And some friends to hang around We don’t care If we hear the same story Cause we settled down On the edge of town What more would you want For your days of glory Grab a couple poles And some friends to hang around We don’t care If we hear the same story

Love Riddle 02:35
Love Riddle You have a hold on me It’s like no other I thought I could take you Now I wonder Is this one for me Is this one for me What if I give in What if I give in I couldn’t choose safe It was the beauty of your face Goodbye Goodbye I’m not crazy enough to stay with you Until I die Goodbye Goodbye I can’t be the man to give you His life You have a swiping claw That cuts me down You’re a distortion by nature A roaring sound Is this one for me Is this one for me What if I give in What if I give in I couldn’t choose safe It was the beauty of your face Goodbye Goodbye I’m not crazy enough to stay with you Until I die Goodbye Goodbye I can’t be the man to give you His life Is this one for me Is this one for me What if I give in What if I give in A ten foot wall of whitewash In front of me Goodbye Goodbye I’m not crazy enough to stay with you Until I die Goodbye Bye I can’t be the man to give you His life

Wet Under the Ears Can you wash rugs forever Complain about your life Make a poor decision Afford a poor wife If this is your life You better get a knife It's a hard way to exist And a terribly tragic price Hank is a labourer He doesn’t have much choice His heart is made of gold But his car ain’t no Royce And he someday dreams of being a singer But he doesn’t have a voice Does being wet under the ears Mean he will always be moist He’s a little wet under the ears Afraid of all his fears Works way too hard And drinks too many beers He’s knows nothings free Still he prays for some luck And he’ll never own a Royce But maybe someday own a truck He’s caught up washing rugs for rich guys It’s run him in the muck And he’ll never have a luck A truck and for that matter even a buck He’s a little wet under the ears Afraid of all his fears Works way too hard And drinks too many beers Yeah Yeah Yeah kick it He’s a little wet under the ears Afraid of all his fears Works way too hard And drinks too many beers Yeah Yeah Yeah He’s a little wet under the ears Afraid of all his fears Works way too hard And drinks too many beers Yeah Yeah Yeah

If I Grow Up 05:11
If I Grow Up The losers walking down the same dusty road It’s time for the youth to take over the load I need a friend to give me hand I could use a ride across the bad lands I want to do what I want to do for the rest of my life Why does that require so much sacrifice It’s the struggles we go through That make us great In a world full of hate Where no one can relate I gave it my best so I could pass it on Should I quit my dreams and stop writing songs The people I count on are busy today The people that are never supposed to hesitate So what am I suppose to say The losers will learn by making mistakes They’ll learn to stand up on their own But not before they take over your home When you try to ride them They’re harder to handle Handle all their rage If I grow up Will I die Will I forget How to try If I live for my dreams Will I forget to live Will I forsake My inner kid The loser in my living space Fill the room with all their living things Shirts that stand up on their own Beer breath smell on my microphone I know where they are for I was there too Am I too old no I just don’t care If I was too old I’d cut my hair Get out of here and move on somewhere I’d stop developing my art and songs Quit my dreams and start selling cars My music would become a hobby I’d surround myself with a family Everyday I’d think about money And would my days ever be sunny My skateboard would delaminate Outside from all the rain When I try to ride one It’s harder to handle Handle all the pain If I grow up Will I die Will I forget How to cry If I live for my dreams Will I forget to live Will I forsake My inner kid If I grow up Will I die Will I forget How to cry If I live for my dreams Will I forget to live Will I forsake My inner kid If I grow up Will I die Will I forget How to cry If I live for my dreams Will I forget to live Will I forsake My inner kid If I grow up Will I die Will I forget How to cry If I live for my dreams Will I forget to live Will I forsake My inner kid Oh oh oh oh

Hope And Peace Can we stay alive In a hopeless stop and go line It’s easier to fight  Than to lay down the anger The face of our nation  Is in grave danger Hope and peace Can cover this land Hope and peace But they're marching us to chaos again And I’m marching off to chaos again Look Im marching off to chaos Look Im marching off to chaos again Hope is destroyed  Toppled in the wake of burning debris Hope is destroyed Trigger happy leaders shed our country's blood Hope is destroyed Open wounds fester and bleed Showers of flaming red Satellite guided missiles buzzing overhead Hope n peace Can cover this land Hope n peace But they're marching us to chaos again And they’re marching us to chaos Look Im marching off to chaos Look Im marching off to chaos again US steel bird disaster T Rex the gnasher The oils on fire Better take me to the water Turn our house into bunkers Make our children platoon leaders President’s thumb to give the command March us off to chaos again

Fall On the Bad Digging for something new Shelved work that’s way past due Opportunity has finally arrived It’s time to decide what survives The writer’s like an architect Building a universe A scavenging hyena Laughing mad while dying of thirst Sometimes the writer creates a Burdening curse Just one more line will Fill out this verse A mad genius is born and Redefines What we all once thought were lies Are now as common as mushroom cloud skies It don’t take no Einstein To realize We all have good days that Fall on the bad By the time that it pays we’ll Probably be dead but We’ll do it anyway Even if no-one hears what is said because Even on good days People are going unfed It’s left in the backwoods On living data based minds The electric wire lines Replace the once living pines I’m no longer an animal Swinging from vines Still I have fight or flight reactions In a world behind mini-blinds I’m not safe with this big mouth I’d rather die than hide in my house It’s a lesson to anyone who closes their doors And shuts their eyes It don’t take no Einstein To realize We all have good days that Fall on the bad By the time that it pays we’ll Probably be dead but We’ll do it anyway Even if no-one hears what is said because Even on good days People are going unfed We all have good days that Fall on the bad By the time that it pays we’ll Probably be dead but We’ll do it anyway Even if no-one hears what is said because Even on good days People are going unfed

Talk To Me 02:10
Talk To Me Running through the desert view My eyes see a world askew Growing trees of Joshua Reach out at me lobster claw That’s when they try to talk to me They try to talk to me That’s when they try to talk to me They try to talk to me My hands in the grass as the ground starts to breath I turn over for a minute to see what the sky has just released Look at all the little people spinning out of control Dragon-fire screams while dropping change hearing a penny roll That’s when they try to talk to me They try to talk to me That’s when they try to talk to me They try to talk to me Singing flowers floating hands Roaming the mellow hills of sand On a treetop with a kaleidoscope lens A purple offering from The Clouds of Cyan That’s when they tried to talk to me They tried to talk to me That’s when they tried to talk to me They tried to talk to me That’s when they tried to talk to me They tried to talk to me That’s when they tried to talk to me They tried to talk to me

about

Recorded in a tiny house in the Twenty Nine Palms desert many winters ago. This material is " shelved work that's way past due". The Payments formed in 1999 playing mostly around the Sacramento area. The twins Clayton and Cameron Bentley eventually joined Nasscar Poets and moved to Los Angeles. Nasscar Poets changed their name to The Working Poor and released one album called Horseshoe. The band split and guitarist Carl Jordan started The Western States Motel while still playing guitar in newly reformed The Payments. The Payments rerecorded the song Horseshoe originally released by The Working Poor. The Payments also rerecorded their old Nasscar Poets live staple song, Wayside, along with many other old and new Payments songs.
